Coachella 2011 Lineup Announced

It’s no secret that we deviate from our musings of male fashion to discuss music from time to time here at Rum Cake, and my hipster side wouldn’t forgive my other side for neglecting to mention this year’s Coachella lineup.

I’m personally excited about, well, almost everyone. I won’t pretend to claim that I know each band well enough to technically be excited about them, but you get the idea. Here are our personal highlight reels in case you were wondering:

Scott: The Black Keys, Chemical Brothers, Brandon Flowers, The Aquabats, Mumford and Sons, Gogol Bordello, Cage the Elephant, Raphael Saadiq, Kanye West (yep), Ratatat, Jimmy Eat World, Chromeo, She Wants Revenge, and Jack’s Mannequin

Jordan: Kings of Leon, Lauryn Hill, Cee Lo Green, The Swell Season, Raphael Saadiq, Kanye West, Duran Duran, Nas & Damian Marley, Erykah Badu.

Editor’s Note: How does Wiz Khalifa get top billing over Raphael Saadiq?

Looks like they’ll only be selling weekend passes yet again. I’m a fan of outdoor concerts but I cringe at the thought of dropping $300 to see live music. I understand it’s Coachella, but come on.

Considering our normal topic of discussion here, it’d be a pity to not mention how common it is to see new styles take center stage, so to speak, for all of the blogosphere to feast their eyes upon. Our friends at Spin magazine put together a Coachella 2010 Look Book from last year’s festival that all potential concert goers should look at, but absolutely avoid copying lest they be mercilessly made fun of for being so behind the times.

I, for one, am most excited to see what the alternative southern California crowd has in store for us this year.
