Film: Rize

This film came out years ago but I was rewatching some sequences this morning and wanted to post about it. David LaChapelle is a visual genius, one of the top photographers working today and his aesthetic is at the forefront of his documentary “Rize”. The film focuses on street dancers in the Los Angeles area, how dance became an alternative to criminal activities for these young adults. It showcases some of the most amazing dancing I’ve seen captured in quite some time. Here is the French trailer, the fidelity of the English-language version I found is poor, and really, the language is movement here.

Also, keep an eye out for my friend Lil’ C, who I shot for a feature editorial last year. He is known as the “King of Krump” and this documentary demonstrates why.
